You’ve come a long way, baby. That was the pitch for a particular smoke years ago, and the phrase caught on for a while. As we look back to the past 8 years at our most ethical administration in history, again we can say, “You’ve come a long way, baby.” America, that is.
It wasn’t that long ago when we could sleep well at night, not fearing what may happen to us or our neighbors. It wasn’t that long ago when we had a right to defend ourselves from anyone who may want to cause harm to us or our families. It wasn’t that long ago that we could guarantee our rights and freedoms, simply because we were Americans. And it wasn’t that long ago that we had a Congress and Senate who would stand for what’s right, defend our constitution, and not flinch at the thought of rebuking a President for conduct and actions detrimental to our country.
Today the one bad apple has pretty much putrefied the entire barrel. Hence, a look at the Senate. Oh, they have a bad bark, and they can put on a show for the people, but when it comes time to put up or shut up, they always “wuss” out. They can rant and rave about what is wrong with this and that, but here we are all these years later, not one little bit better. As my grandfather used to say, “An empty can makes a lot of racket.” And he was right. We have an enormous number of empty cans that line the hallowed halls of our Congress and Senate. Sadly to say, they are as guilty as the President himself. Not so much for what he did, but for what they haven’t done.
They have collectively tucked their tails and bolted like a herd of wild cattle. We have heard Al Gore say there was no leading legal authority for all his misdeeds. We have seen him shakedown the best of both worlds in an attempt to raise money “for his party”. We have seen “Crime Bill” disgrace the office of the presidency itself. We have seen him sell America to the Chinese Communists who threw money at him like we throw peanuts at monkeys in a zoo. The difference is, that the monkeys appreciate it.
Can you not see our freedoms and rights are going down the tubes? Can you not see that both parties cannot be trusted? Can you not see that Democrats and the Republicans are equally to blame? One for having no morals, the other for having no spine. It seems to me a present-day miracle that any of the Republicans can muster enough of anything to walk. With no backbone, this has got to be one helluva feat in itself. Kinda like “boneless chickens trying to walk”. But it’s okay. The economy is good, the train is on time, and everyone has a job or a handout. We don’t have to take any responsibility for anything. Besides, to hear Al Gore tell it, he’s pretty much responsible for everything anyway, so why bother?
It’s not enough that this administration has trashed the Constitution itself, but has been the biggest enemy of Christians and families that this country has ever seen. There are indeed two forces in this world. The force of good and the force of evil. Is it so hard to distinguish who is working for which? But please, don’t count on the Rathers, or Jennings’, or the King’s to set you straight on it. People, we have allowed the media to spoon-feed us political poison, and we have become accustomed to it, have acquired a taste for it, and would shudder at the thought of being weaned from it.
Yes, my friends. The force is with us. Just recently, President Clinton, in a speech about children who are schooled at home said: “Your children have to prove that they’re learning regularly, and if they don’t prove that they’re learning then they have to go into a school — either into a parochial or private school or a public school.” Yes, he is certainly for the children, is he not? He cannot even care for his household, so I challenge him to come butting into mine. Nothing he could do, short of resigning could convince me that our country will recover.
As a parting shot, I say to the Clintons, the Gores, the Renos, the Carvilles, and all the other two-bit players in this little scheme: “And the slime you brought with you”.
