Meanwhile, back at the brewery. So far, we see that Project Cirrus acquired the property and buildings, in part, of the Doran Mill, and that the wood would be, as they say, “repurposed” for the brewery’s use. So, this group, headed up by Roger Holland, demolished some property, grabbed the boards from the place, had them refinished and customized for the brewery, left the pile of rubble as is, and ventured on to the Newgrass Brewery so that it could open this summer. Remember, Holland and partners came back to the county commissioners and requested an extension of 18 and 24 months to finish what they said that they’d do in 2011. These folks have had time to start and finish various other projects, but yet, this old Doran Mill property is an eyesore to the community and is also a testament to the neglect of the property, once the “good” has been retrieved from it.
This gets quite interesting, as the details come into play. Project Cirrus was the party that went to bat for and received the Doran Mill Property. Then, some of the same people started another entity called Dover Technology Group. This bunch would claim that they would build a 65,000 sq. ft. data center on the old Doran Mill property.
In all actuality, these people who keep getting these favors from the city and the county are doing nothing less than running a tab with the people of the city and county. And the odds are as real as a real bar tab…it might not be paid in full. Remember the alleyway that was “repurposed”, so that this one business could have tables and chairs outside? What if a few more businesses came to the city council and asked for the same treatment. Think they would receive the same consideration, and the city manager would go to bat for them? Or do you think the city would spend a pretty penny to help them get what they wanted?
If you will follow along with us here, we can show you a pattern and the people, who are together in various capacities, but yet, wind up in the thick of things when money is to be made. Bids? They don’t need a stinking bid. The only thing needed is the knowledge of how much you are allowed to spend, and when to start. Many times, pictures do tell a story. They’re not always pretty pictures or pretty stories. But they always paint a picture of the truth.
