Let me begin by stating that I never am in a position of being “half-cocked” or “unarmed”, or being known as a writer who engages in “reckless abandon. As the title implies, this editorial is a question, as much as a statement. Are we, or are we not a nation that trusts in God? Having been around long enough to remember when we were allowed to have prayer in schools and such, and to know that most elected officials when taking the oath of office during the swearing-in ceremony, end the oath with the phrase, “so help me God”, I can’t imagine what all the hoopla is regarding the Attorney General nominee, John Ashcroft.
The liberal folks are all bent out of shape because John Ashcroft is a Christian. This is very troubling to the left-wingers because they are accustomed to having a thug in the present administration. As I would say to Mr. Ashcroft, “Sir, you are no Janet Reno”…thankfully! The opposition realizes that a person of integrity and character will occupy this office, and it pains them to realize this. The words integrity and character, for the libs, are somewhat similar to the situation of the old TV character, Maynard G. Crebbs, who used to find it hard to mutter the word “work”. Nonetheless, the rapscallion liberals are not very happy with the idea of John Ashcroft as the Attorney General. So much for their bipartisanism.
It was written in all the left-wing rags and papers that the left was concerned that Mr. Ashcroft would invite God into all his decisions. Indeed, this should be troubling to the left, since God would have to introduce himself to that bunch. And the long introduction that it would require could take up lots of precious time. These leftists are concerned about the new Attorney General being able to “speak of God so freely.” Of course, this is a Democratic abomination. Only Joe Liebermann is allowed to use God and religion during his candidacy. Only Al Gore, Bill and Hillary, Revs. Al and Jesse are permitted to position themselves behind the pulpits of black churches and speak about God and religion. Isn’t it funny how partisanship works? If you’re all for what I want and agree with it, then it’s non-partisan. But if you dare disagree with me, then you’re playing “partisan politics”.
Guess what? When it comes to God or even Christianity, it is extremely partisan. The Words says so. When it comes down to it, God will tell you, “You’re either for me or against me.” Pretty simple stuff! The Democrats complain that Ashcroft is Pro-Life. So what? Aren’t most of us Pro-Life? The left argues that life does not begin at conception. So, if that is true, then why are they so hell-bent on freedom to abort? If there is no life, then what are they aborting? If there is a heartbeat, my friend, then there is life. Even though I can look around the Senate and Congress, and list some of the jug heads that abound there, and probably make an abortion case, that would not be right.
These people who don’t want the right to legislate morality are the same folks who want the left to legislate immorality. You know the type…if it feels good, do it. If it hurts nobody, do it! Well, let me say that I am tired of having their putrid agenda shoved down my throat. They don’t want us to have an opportunity to acknowledge God in our lives, yet they want us to “accommodate” the gays, the abortionists, the atheists, the corrupt, and all that the left stands for. Are we to remain silent and put up with this?
Having never been accused of being politically correct, I will tell you now that I will go down swinging and I won’t be an easy mark when it comes to a fight. I will cling to and use the Constitution and all the rights granted to me by our forefathers. We must realize that if we remain silent, and think that “someone else” will take care of everything, we are sadly mistaken. It will not happen. So, I encourage you to make your voices heard. Let your character be known. It’s not a bad thing to stand up and shout “NO” when the enemy is trying to smother you. It’s okay to be angry and do what is right. Remember, when Jesus confronted the money changers in the temple, He didn’t simply and softly tell them they’d better stop doing this. No, He showed anger, he showed a strong belief in what was right…He overturned tables and cleaned the house. Is that too much to ask of ourselves? Should we be overturning some tables and cleaning some houses? And senates?
Should we not stand for freedom and religion? Should we not become a force to be reckoned with? Or should we sit and watch as these corrupt politicians continue to place their hands on the Bible and proclaim “so help me God”, as we watch and complain, and sit idly and do nothing?
Think about it. Do we believe at all?
